This Hendel, made during the golden period of German violinmaking, has a rich and bold tone.

Upper Bout: 160mm
Center Bout: 109mm
Lower Bout: 203mm

The back is of one piece of maple cut on the quarter of narrow flaming. The ribs and scroll are of similar maple. The top is of two pieces of spruce cut on the quarter of irregular grain. The varnish is red-brown over a golden ground.

Born 1880, Arno Erwin Hendel established his shop in Markneukirchen in 1921. Studied under Richard Monnig and worked under Robert Nurnberger, Wilhelm Lederer, & Ernst Liebich, III. Prisoner of war in France during WWI and sent to work in a violin workshop. Due to this, his instruments have unique characteristics of both French and German styles. Died in 1940.
